Digital radio is making waves

Posted under Technology

We have been hearing about current radio stations offering broadcasts in High definition, and this will also allow more channels and better quality. This traditional radios attempt to combat the move to satellite radio by consumers. So now we will be asked to invest in new stereo systems, and car radios to benefit from these digital signals. To find some great information on the new Digital Radio and the equipment you will need you check it out at Radio Guide.

The new radios are being called Digital Audio Broadcasting or DAB. These new radios are able to receive the new digital signals that will be sent from radio stations. They will offer better sound quality, easier to find stations, and more stations. You will see an expansion in niche radio programming similar to what is offered in satellite radio. If this catches on, satellite providers such as Sirius may regret the $500 million investment they made for the “King of All Media” Howard Stern. The same rules of the FCC will still apply so those looking for the unedited radio of Stern or the O & A show, will still need to subscribe to their satellite radios. For the majority of Americans, they will probably wait for the equipment to come down, and more competitors come into the marketplace to increase competition.

Your IP address and shopping

Posted under Technology

IP Address and your townShoppers are being targeted more and more these days based on the geographic location and type of internet connection they are using. So if you are a male from the north using a high speed internet connection, you may receive a 10% discount offer when visiting Amazon.com, versus a shopper from the north receiving a $5 off coupon when it is detected they are using regular dial up. Advertisers are tailoring their home pages based on how the user got to their site. So if you search for discount DVDs and get to Amazon you may get a free shipping offer, versus finding DVD™s on Amazon by using the term HD DVD.

This type of targeting has been around for a while, but has been gaining more use as retailers are trying to tailor their offerings to the customers that are visiting their sites. You may find different discounts that are available depending on the time of day, and how you reached the site. For instance, going to the jewelry site ice.com, users who entered the URL directly into their browser may not be awarded any special discount, whereas those that came from a search engine may receive a free shipping offer. This is in part due to the fact these companies are trying to get customers to the site, and if assumed you are already a customer you may not be enticed with free shipping since you have already found the site. Brought to you by Top Directories where you can see and be seen.

Remote Service

Posted under Technology

We just had the unfortunate luck of having to reconfigure our servers that host some of our blogs and websites. We were asked to download some SQL files to our hard drive and the reload them back to the main server. Luckily for us they were able to remotely dial into our PC’s and help us with the configuration without having to send in a tech guy which might have taken hours or even days.

Remote Desktop Service great benefit to the end user like myself in that they can help drive the ship and you get a chance to provide direction and make sure everything is corrected. With companies like Techline.com they offer remote technical assistance where both parties are present on the PC to be able to control the desktop. They offer a nice range of flexible pricing plans and are easy to use and most off secruity for your transaction.

Website popularity

Posted under Technology

There are a many sites that offer free link popularity checks for your URL. Why is it so important to have sites that link into you? Google and other search engines appear to be placing more value on links that are coming into a site, than they used too. It used to be that optimizing keywords and enhancing your meta tags would help. While the keywords and their placement is still critical I have seen articles that meta tags may not hold that much weight. Remember though that you want to be linked too quality sites, so if you are linking to sites that have been blacklisted by Google and other search engines, you will only hurt your chances of getting ranked higher in search engines for your keywords and topics.

Success of the iPhone

Posted under Technology

I recently went down to our local AT&T store to check out the new iPhone that has been in the news. After playing with the device I was sure that this was my next phone. I am not usually one to jump on the technology that has been just released but I must say the features and ease of use of this phone is incredible. My other question was since this is supposed to be internet friendly and we are able to watch YouTube videos how much extra were the services going to be. Luckily they have thought this part through and the iPhone has it’s own plans with unlimited web and email. The plans are comparable to their standard plans with just a few less minutes. But with their roll over minutes and the fact that everyone who I call that is on the AT&T network don’t count towards my minutes this make for a great buy.

getting paid to search

Posted under Technology

A new search engine called Search Big Daddy, has launched within the last month, where they award their users in PPC credits to do searches. You can use their search engine and then earn credits to purchase various keyword searches for your own website. We originally posted about this back in the fall of 2006 and the splash was not as big as we thought. They are trying to compete with the likes of Yahoo and Google.

Success on time

Posted under Technology

I have always been passionate about having a great time piece to keep me on schedule. I am always looking for the next look in watches and have had a variety of watches from Seiko to Swiss Army. The one thing I love is the mechanical time pieces as I have always had great luck and they seem to be more precise and less maintenance. The more features that a watch the less likely I am to purchase since I am only need of the time and date at a glance. My Seiko watch that I have now has been great and durable. I use it for work while in my suit and then wear it for casual outings. Even when I forgot to take it off when out in the yard it is easy to clean even though it has taken some abuse.

Finding Seiko Watch, Casio Watch, Citizen Watch at great prices and wide selection can be easily done at Bodying.com. They offer a huge range of watches and time pieces with 100% satisfaction for your purchases. This is great for shoppers like me who want a specific feel and look and want to be assured that I am not stuck with my purchase in the event the watch does not meet my expectations. The following Seiko watch is great because you have the different bands that can be changed out for sport and casual wear and provides a great look for whatever the occasion.

Securing your valuables

Posted under Technology

In an effort to monitor employees that travel in company owned vehicles more companies are turning to GPS tracking systems. While employees may feel they are being watched by big brother, I think it is a great way to reduce wasted time and track valuable assets that a company has on the road.

There a is a very nice demo available at Brick House Security which you can play with here. You can actually watch the dots moving on the map to give you a more realistic view of what is offered. With the system you can monitor a single vehicle or a fleet of trucks. You can monitor location, direction they are traveling, and even the speed at which they are traveling. You can set up alerts if a vehicle is traveling over a certain required speed. And they even have address alerts to let you know when a truck has arrived at a location.

They can even take this technology and make it available to deploy Teen Tracking. How nice would it would be to able to know where your kids are at all times. Most of the devices require that they be hard wired into the vehicle, which makes for better security, and less chance of the device being manipulated. I personally think this is great to have available for kids, not to reduce the trust factor but build on it and to ultimately protect your children. I have always said that I am not as much concerned with what my children are doing or where they are going. I would hope that we have instilled the correct values to decide when something is right or wrong. I am worried about the lunatics out there that may cross paths with my family, and bring them harm.
